Grant to support future psychologists
A GRANT provided by the Federal Government will help Federation University Australia grow the qualified psychology workforce.
The grant worth more than $595,000 is part of the Department of Health and Aged Care’s national leadership in mental health program.
The program aims to create and maintain the workforce needed to meet current and future demands on the mental health sector.
The grant will be used to support more postgraduate psychology places in FedUni’s Master of Psychology (Clinical) course.
“Federation University is committed to growing the nation’s psychology workforce and is particularly passionate about increasing mental health services in rural and regional areas,” said Federation University head of clinical services and programs – psychology Dr Megan Jenkins.
“We are delighted to support the continued growth of our postgraduate psychology programs and create more opportunities for our students to become registered psychologists.
“Not only will the grant allow us to train more psychologists, but it will enable our students to provide high-quality mental health support to our community while training in the FedCare clinic.”
Enrolments in FedUni’s postgraduate psychology courses have increased by 87 per cent since 2019.
Students are provided with placement opportunities including at FedCare Psychology, a training clinic located at FedUni’s Mount Helen Campus.
