The first round of the State Government’s regional activation grants program has opened with the effort seeking to help regional tourism boards, food and fibre groups, and regional bodies showcase local produce.

Minister for Agriculture, Ros Spence, opened the current round of funding round last Thursday with grants of up to $70,000 on offer for events which showcase local food and drink.

Suitable event and activities could be farmers’ markets, festivals, tasting sessions, or direct engagement with the community.

The aim of the initiative is to encourage consumers to connect with local producers.

“We’re empowering local producers to promote Victoria’s wonderful variety of locally sourced food and drinks and celebrate the unique stories behind every product,” said Ms Spence.

“These grants will help foster a rich appreciation for Victorian produce and encourage consumers to shop in their local region and build a connection with local producers.”

Producers who receive grants will also have their goods displayed on the Vic Grown website which is a hub for locally grown and created products.

Applications are open until Friday 16 February and can be made on the Agriculture Victoria website.
