Group set to ride for the kids
BALLARAT and region combined motorcycle clubs are coming together next month in a ride for the kids.
The charity ride will be held Saturday 14 October with all money raised going towards the children’s ward at the Ballarat Base Hospital.
The idea came from Tedd Kennis, a community member who has a personal connection to the Ballarat Base Hospital’s children’s ward.
“The initial idea was Tedd Kennis’ because his grandson Kaiden was staying with Tedd and his wife and he got quite sick and they took him to the Base,” said Brad Mitchell, one of the event organisers.
“By the time they got there he was in pretty bad shape and he was taken straight into intensive care.
“Tedd believes that without the assistance of the kid’s ward at the base his grandson might not be here today.”
There will be a sausage sizzle and raffles with bike registration from 9.30am and a 60-kilometre ride from 11am until 12pm.
“We will have coffee, donuts and a silent auction in the club rooms with items that have been donated from a wide range of businesses,” said Mr Mitchell.
“People have been very generous and very happy to support this activity.”
All money raised from the day will stay in Ballarat and go towards high priority items for the children’s ward.
“Everyone donates to the children’s hospital appeal, but that money goes to Melbourne,” said Mr Mitchell.
“For many of the local families, a stay in the Melbourne hospital is preceded by a stay in the Base Hospital.
“Tedd felt it would be great if we did something specifically for the kid’s ward here.”
The event will be held at Ballarat Rovers Motorcycle Club in Mitchell Park.
