Headspace to deliver job support

HUNDREDS of thousands of Federal dollars have been invested into a new youth mental health program to be delivered by Headspace Ballarat over four years.

The Individual Placement and Support Program is set to help Ballarat young people with mental illness into the workforce, beginning at the end of the month.

Senator for Victoria Sarah Henderson said the initiative will explore and break down barriers preventing people with mental health challenges from getting a job and keeping it.

“The Morrison Government will invest $845,000 in this valuable program to boost local mental health and employment services in Ballarat,” she said.

“By integrating educational and workforce support with clinical mental health services, we can help our young people secure employment opportunities.

“Mental illness should not be a barrier to pursuing a fulfilling career and the Individual Placement and Support Program will ensure young people have access to the tailored support they need to thrive in any workplace.”

Minister for Families and Social Services Anne Ruston said mental illness can have broader impacts on those trying to gain employment after they leave school.

“This investment will provide local career assistance hand-in-hand with clinical support to help young people with mental illness enter the workforce and reach their full potential,” she said.

It’s estimated 6000 Australians under 25 will be able to access specialist vocational and employment support services within the broader Individual Placement and Support Program.
