THIS year marks a decade of Central Highlands Water and the City of Ballarat’s Choose Tap program which provides free access to drinking water in public places.

Since the initiative began, more than 100 water fountains have been installed across the municipality at parks, schools, and community spaces.

The program aims to promote good health and reduce the use of single-use plastic.

“Our decade-long partnership with the City of Ballarat is a testament to what can be achieved when local organisations work together with a shared purpose,” Central Highlands Water managing director Jeff Haydon said.

“Through the Choose Tap program, we’ve been able to combine resources and expertise to deliver lasting benefits to the community, from improved health and wellbeing to greater environmental sustainability.

“We’re proud to continue working alongside the City of Ballarat to create a healthier, more liveable Ballarat for current and future generations.”

One of the first drinking fountains to be installed, located at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, now includes a new design with a begonia theme.

The illustration by Myanda Butt includes tuberous and non-tuberous Begonia foliage.

“The partnership with Central Highlands Water and Choose Tap has been a great success for Ballarat,” mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves said.

“The newly refreshed, iconic begonia-themed water fountain at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens is a standout.

“These fountains not only enhance the beauty of our public spaces but also provide convenient access to safe drinking water, benefiting both residents and visitors alike.”
