Health service volunteers honoured
LONG-term volunteers with Grampians Health have been celebrated at the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.
Paul Lovell, Una Faux and the late Cynthia Knight were honoured at the ceremony that recognised the contributions of volunteers in Victoria’s hospitals who have served for 30 years or more.
Mr Lovell has been a volunteer in Ballarat for more 35 years in multiple programs such as the volunteer liaison group, Jack Lonsdale Lodge, the hospital elder life program, and paediatrics.
His work as a volunteer helps staff to focus on patient care, enhancing efficiency and quality of care.
Mr Lovell is also a volunteer simulated patient who plays specific characters to help train medical and nursing students.
“This was the most humbling experience and honour,” he said.
“I am eternally grateful to the board of Grampians Health. I am very satisfied and happy to be a part of this wonderful organisation.”
Ms Faux and Ms Knight volunteered for 32 and 34 years respectively in Horsham.
“Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our operations,” Grampians Health chief executive officer Dale Fraser said. “Their unwavering dedication and selfless service have made a significant impact on the lives of our patients and staff, and they continue to touch the lives of many.”
Mr Fraser specifically acknowledged Ms Knight, who passed away earlier this year.
“We dearly miss Cynthia, and her passing is a profound loss for our community,” he said.
“Cynthia’s spirit of generosity and her commitment to improving healthcare for others will always be remembered and cherished.
“Over the years, she has become a valuable member of the auxiliary and have touched the lives of many.”
