FOR this year’s recent Men’s Health Week, Ballarat Health Services unveiled a new online platform.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging men of all ages to better take care of their mental and physical wellbeing.

Featuring videos from Ballarat-based clinicians and links to local and national resources, the online tool kit is an access point for men to engage with their health.

“Men’s Health Week is a great reminder about the ways we should be looking after ourselves,” said Dale Fraser, BHS CEO.

“This will be a fantastic ongoing resource where men can proactively find information and educate themselves on the next steps for their health.”

The dedicated BHS website opens with a video from Mr Fraser who says dialogue about mental health is “vital”.

“Everybody should have a conversation with their GP, a friend, their family members or a loved one to have both important conversations about your physical health but also your mental health,” Mr Fraser said.

“I urge all men to prioritise our health and be proactive in seeking healthcare. If you don’t have a regular GP, I would encourage you to try to find one.”

The new website hosts a range of videos created by health professionals, from general practitioners to physiologists, to inform men about general wellbeing.

These resources discuss topics including connecting with your GP, quitting smoking, the importance of exercise, mental health and eating well as a part of an overall approach to health.

“We have definitely seen big changes to our work and home life in 2020, however the pandemic should not be an excuse to ignore our health or any concerns or symptoms we might have,” said Mr Fraser.

“If we all work together, hopefully we can see improved health outcomes for not only men and but our whole community.”
