AFTER a year and a half of construction, the St John of God Ballarat Hospital expansion will be complete in coming months.

Director of redevelopment, Matthew Lyttle, said staff are looking forward to the new facilities servicing the community.

“A highlight of this project so far has been the cath-lab; it’s a world-class facility,” he said.

“Every surgeon that has visited has looked at it and said it’s fantastic.

“The surgeons, nurses, anaesthetists, and intensivists are all getting incredibly excited to move into these new areas.”

Builders BESIX Watpac and H. Troon engaged with local contractors to deliver the complex health infrastructure project.

“Working with H.Troon and local contractors in Ballarat has been fantastic,” BESIX Watpac site manager Simon Rowe said.

“We hope to be able to continue fostering these important relationships for future projects. We’re really pleased with what we’ve achieved.”

H. Troon managing director James Troon said the project has been delivered in a live environment.

Hospital operations have continued while a pathology area, a central sterile services department, and an in-patient tower with state-of-the-art cath-lab were constructed.

The project team are now concentrated on building new administrative office spaces.
