How’s yar beanie? Help pick the best COVID-themed design

VOTING has now opened for Interknit’s Lockdown 2020 design a beanie competition.

Five finalists have been shortlisted, showcasing a range of colourful, COVID-related proposals.

Designs range from a microscopic look at the virus, a testament to hand washing, a hopeful mask-wearing beanie, a considerate ‘stay safe’ message and a computer game look at a molecular level.

Company co-director Kassie Blaszak said to take careful consideration when voting.

“Vote for what you would buy and what you would wear on your head,” she said. “But also vote based on what you would want to see being worn around Ballarat.”

Around 30 beanie designs were submitted to the competition, leaving an impressive list of honourable mentions.

These include a ‘bogan beanie’ sporting a stylish mullet due to hairdressers closing and an Anzac themed beanie commemorating a most unique day of remembrance.

Ms Blaszak said the shortlisted finalists were judged based on their practicality.

“When selecting the top five designs, the decisions were based on how we would actually create that beanie,” she said. “Some designs were too complex for our machines or had some words that we weren’t able to use.”

Voting for the best winter noggin warmer will run until Sunday, 17 May.

The winning designer will receive a copy of their beanie, at $100 Interknit voucher, and get to direct 15 per cent off all money raised from the sale of the beanies to a registered charity of their choice.
