Indigenous voice for water org

A NEW appointment to Central Highlands Water’s board is aiming to bring a First Nations perspective to the utility’s operations.

Ballarat-based Adnyamathanha Yuru man Shu Brown has joined CHW’s board as an independent Aboriginal delegate and he’s tasked with bringing his Indigenous experiences to the organisation’s decision-making processes.

Mr Brown said he’s looking forward to taking on the role.

“I am thrilled to join CHW’s Board of Directors as an independent Aboriginal delegate and am looking forward to the opportunity to develop my board governance skills, as well as share my cultural and community experience and knowledge,” he said.

“There is so much still to be learnt about how best to manage and share water, community and environmental priorities, and how to incorporate this knowledge into decisions on the management of our very precious resources.”

Mr Brown’s job will be to advise the organisation on best practices regarding their environmental and community strategies aimed at maintaining healthy land and waterways.

He currently works at the Ballarat and District Aboriginal Co-operative as the head of their cultural and therapeutic team providing health and wellbeing services.
