THE lake is set get a lot brighter as the City of Ballarat’s pushes forward with further community consultation on Lake Wendouree and Victoria Park Link Lighting plan.

The $2.5 million project was first designed in 2017 and funding for the works subsequently became a Labor pledge during the 2018 State election.

The initiative would see the installation of approximately 220 lights along the Steve Moneghetti Track on the Lake Wendouree foreshore to provide a safer environment for visitors, particularly after-hours.

With the aim of increasing accessibility in the precinct, the project also includes a lighting link between Victoria Park and the lake.

City of Ballarat acting director for development and growth Natalie Robertson said an early round of consultation found Lake Wendouree was the most loved place in the city.

“Lake Wendouree has been a major social destination for Ballarat residents for the past 150 years, gaining the reputation as Ballarat’s jewel,” she said.

“As part of community consultation for the master plan the lake lighting project received significant community support at 82 per cent.

“Whilst there has been significant community input, this [new round of] feedback informs the next stage of the project which includes an application for a planning permit and include any considerations that may be appropriate as part of the mySay input.”

You can have your say on the proposed lake lighting project through the City’s mySay platform until 7 September by visiting mysay.ballarat.vic.gov.au.
