Inspiring curiosity and fostering learning
AS the old proverb says, it takes a village to raise a child.
That’s what the Passionately Curious Kids Facebook group has taken into consideration during this isolation period.
With over 1000 members, the online community shares everything from ideas for arts and crafts, parenting tips, online events and challenges for kids.
Admin Katie Miller said the page is welcoming and encourages everyone to see what the group can offer them, or what they can offer the group.
“It can be quite daunting logging into Pinterest or Instagram and seeing all of these glamorous and luxurious things people have prepared for their kids,” she said.
“With this group the goals are far more realistic, there’s no judgement or competition, it’s just a place to share ideas and be inspired.”
The group was created in 2012 but has experienced a resurgence of activity throughout the COVID-19 pandemic with eager families looking for ways to keep themselves occupied.
With students asked to learn from home for term 2, the group hopes to introduce a way for children to use digital messaging platforms to discuss homework and classes with other kids from the Facebook group.
Ms Miller said the community provides a helping hand for parents but also a lifeline for their children.
“It’s entirely possible that our kids will miss out on their entire year of school, so it’s the parent’s jobs to ensure that we do everything we can to give them positive and lasting memories,” she said.
