LINE marking at the intersection of Humffray Street South and Barkly Street has been completed, marking the next stage of Ballarat’s sewer build.
Works were completed at a depth of up to nine metres to install duplicate pipe and maintenance holes.
The $25 million project by Central Highlands Water aims to provide infrastructure for the next 100 years.
Central Highlands Water project manager Chris Loader thanked businesses for their understanding throughout the construction period.
“The works, which encountered both extremely hard rock and varying ground conditions, have been challenging, making the full and permanent reopening of this intersection particularly pleasing,” he said.
“Businesses located at the Humffray Street South and Barkly Street intersection, including Interknit, Genesis Gym, Viridi and Windscreen Power, have been exceptionally understanding and supportive throughout the process, which we are really grateful for.”
Construction will now move to the intersection of Hill Street and Humffray Street South, extending to Morton Street.
Works here will include creating a pit to allow access for a microtunnelling machine to underbore and install the next section of sewer pipe.
The area is expected to be closed to traffic until November.
