Knit one, purl one, lots of fun!
BEGINNER and experienced knitters are invited to learn new skills and share their talents in a group that meets weekly at St Paul’s, Bakery Hill.
The sessions run every Thursday from 11.30am until 1pm and participants are asked to bring their own needles and yarn, with patterns, tea and coffee provided.
“The group was established to provide an opportunity to share skills and build community,” said group member Sue Lanyon.
“I love meeting people and enjoying company and conversation and I enjoy the variety of interests that people being to the knitting group.”
Participants support each other learning new techniques, learning to read patterns, and solving any problems which may arise.
“This is a great group because everybody knows something different and are prepared to share,” said Ms Lanyon.
It also provides a place for conversation and social connection.
“It’s a good reason to get out of the house because sometimes you can get stuck doing life so it’s nice to have a time of the week where you can catch up with some likeminded people,” said group member Judith McQueen.
“It gives you something to look forward to.”
For Denise Wellington, the group provided an opportunity make new friends after moving back to Ballarat.
“It’s a terrific way to meet new people as a person who’s returned to Ballarat after being away for quite a few years,” she said.
“To actually interact with people who I’ve never met before and feel comfortable straight away and be made to feel part of a team is really important.”
