VEGAS and Rose is serving up some summery sweet treats this season, behind a little pink door in Ballarat East.

Penthea Marshall-Radcliffe is inviting Ballarat to pick up and take away her yummy creations, made with love and the help of her 10-year-old daughter, Ramona.

Ice-cream sandwiches – with sprinkles or toffee crumbs – are the star of the summer menu, alongside Vietnamese iced coffee frappes – options for both kids and big kids at heart.

Homemade brownies, cookies and brookies – brownie cookies – act as a delicious bread, hugging ice-cream sourced from Timboon. Choc mint is a popular choice.

Doughnuts are also baked and fly out the pink door. Doveton Street café, FIKA sells a batch to their loyal coffee lovers every weekend.

Ms Marshall-Radcliffe hopes her residential small business will be a place for families to stop and grab something cool as they make their way to the Brown Hill pool, just around the corner.

Previously, she owned and ran Ballarat café, Vegas and Rose, which was beloved locally for five years before it closed permanently in 2017.

Ready to move on, she wanted to spend more time with her two children, but after a while, she missed working with food.

“Another shop – it’s too much work,” she said, so thought she would start a catering service from her home kitchen, and she kept the name.

Deciding she’d greet customers outside, Ms Marshall-Radcliffe installed an original old door from the house down the side of the building.

Left over after renovations, it still had character and she didn’t want it to go to waste. A lick of pink paint made it the perfect foodie pick up point for Vegas and Rose.

Grazing and lunch boxes have become Ms Marshall-Radcliffe’s specialty of late, perfect for workers’ breaks, picnics and catch-ups.
