Theatre Co offers audience a Cuppa

LADDERFRAME Theatre Collective will stage their original play Cuppa? over three November nights at the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute.

President and founder Chiara Angeli said the piece is eclectic and unusual, not only featuring a small cast of local young emerging talent and original music, but plenty of abstract theatre, lights and sounds.

“It’s the story of two households; one a younger share house, and the other a family house, and how those intimate personal stories span over a year and a half,” she said.

“We started this project around May, wanting to put together an original piece, and have all members of the cast participate in the writing, as well as the performing.

“We held workshops, writing different scenes and monologues, and a story came out which we’ve pieced together into a full-length play.”

Ensemble member Jack Gillard has written a “beautiful” score for the show. A piano will be played on-stage to “tie everything together.”

Part of LadderFrame’s mission is to collaborate with local businesses forge a mutual support.

“The more we can do for people that are eager to support the arts is important, as businesses have seen lots of struggle and strife in the last 18 months,” Ms Angeli said.

“We are encouraging people to get their tickets now. If we can’t have big audiences, we’ll still find a way for those tickets to be valid.

“Being a small ensemble, we can afford to use any profits as a means to pay our crew and actors, and highlight that this is our work, not just a hobby.”
