MEGHAN and Harry: The Real Story is Lady Colin Campbell’s latest book on the Royals.

A number one on Amazon, it climbed into the London Sunday Times top-ten. The book has been released in Australia, and the blockbuster, page-turning narrative provides the first behind-the-scenes, authoritative account of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s marriage.

The author, Lady Colin Campbell, wrote the New York Times bestselling Diana in Private. It was, originally, to be the official biography of the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

Lady Colin and the Princess were friends; however, they fell-out when she refused to believe Diana’s obviously exaggerated version of events, and her less-than-truthful, and sometimes spiteful, tales about her former husband, The Prince of Wales.

When their friendship ended, Diana told-all to Andrew Morton.

On publication, his sensational book took the world by storm, and everyone by surprise, particularly the Royal Family. Paradoxically, it was Lady Colin Campbell’s book, Diana in Private, which went someway in helping restore the Prince of Wales’ reputation which suffered a catastrophic public battering.

Lady Colin’s unbiased narrative provided some balance to the soured love story, the minutiae of which mesmerised the world.

Prince Harry’s extraordinary fall from popular grace as a consequence of his marriage to the television actress and Suits star, Meghan Markle, makes for fascinating reading in this ground-breaking book.

The previously adored brother of William, heir to the British throne, surprised, and in some instances antagonised, everyone with his unprecedented announcement of their plans to step-side from senior royal duties.

With a unique breadth of insight, and impeccable contacts, Lady Campbell talks to friends, relations, courtiers, and colleagues on both sides of the Atlantic to reveal the most unanticipated royal story since King Edward VIII’s abdication, 1936.

She highlights the dilemmas and the issues that lurk beneath the surface; explaining why the couple decided to step-down as senior royals; she analyses the implications of the actions of a young and ambitious Duke and Duchess of Sussex, deeply in love with each other, and lured by the potential of fame-and-fortune – mostly fortune – on the other side of the Atlantic.

The book leads the reader through the maze of contradictions Meghan and Harry have created, at the same time, evoking the Californian culture which has influenced the couple’s conduct.

Meghan and Harry: The Real Story, exposes how the royal couple tried, unsuccessfully, to revolutionise the system; firstly, by attempting to adapt it to their own needs and ambitions, and, upon failing, how they decided to create a new life, and financial independence (Harry is thought to be worth $25-million), for themselves outside of the toxic royal family.

Recently, The Duchess of Sussex protested she felt unprotected by the family and the system – something which is disputed by the palace.

It has been argued The Queen made an even greater than usual effort to welcome and accommodate Meghan into the difficult life of the world’s most famous family. Certainly, The Queen made public appearance inclusions for Meghan which were not made for other young women joining the family.

According to Lady Colin, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, who identifies as a woman of colour, allowed her personal wants and needs to swamp her opportunities, squandering a unique chance for helping combat world racism.

Through marriage and common ancestors, Lady Colin is connected to all the Royal Families of Europe, and has been a fixture in society and gossip columns on both sides of the Atlantic for the last four decades.

She lives between London and Castle Goring with her two adopted sons, Dima and Misha. The Castle Goring has been described by architectural critic, Ian Nairn, as reflecting, “the equivocal taste of the 1790s as well as anywhere in the country.”

Lady Colin Campbell is the bestselling biographer of books on Diana, Princes of Wales, The Queen Mother, and Queen Elizabeth’s marriage. Her autobiography – A Life Worth Living – was an international best-seller.

Meghan and Harry: The Real Story is published in Australia by NewSouth Books.
