A PUBLIC talk with a focus on choosing happiness will be on at the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute later this month.

The event will be led by Buddhist nun Kelsang Luma and she will be talking about the art of meditation and how to lead a happy life no matter the circumstances.

“It’s about using meditation to understand what are the true causes of happiness,” said Luma.

“I’ll be talking about the different types of happiness that we experience and sometimes we are all searching for happiness and we find it difficult to experience lasting happiness as we are looking in all the wrong places.”

The talk will centre around the idea of inner peace, rather than superficial happiness revolving around money, looks or power.

Participants will also be taken through a guided meditation.

“We tend to look outside of ourselves to find happiness thinking that if we have the right partner, house or job we will be happy,” said Luma.

“Actually, through meditation we can see that happiness is a state of mind and that the more peaceful our mind is the happier we become.

“The happiness that comes from inner peace compared to the happiness that comes from external things has a different quality.”

Luma said she hopes participants will learn how to create lasting happiness in their lives.

“It would be really nice if people take away a wish to have a peaceful mind and if they wish to have this peaceful mind, they will be happy.”

The talk will start at 7pm on Wednesday 31 January and to book visit the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute website.
