Learn how to get a gig
LOOKING for some advice about how to score a music booking?
In the third installation of the City of Ballarat’s Lunchtime Creative Workshops, a selection of musically inclined professionals will answer some of the public’s gig related questions.
The panel is set to include senior manager of Contemporary Music Creative Victoria Bonnie Dalton, Music Victoria acting CEO Dale Packard, local producer Mick Trembath, and booker at The Eastern Abby Ashmore.
“I’ve been involved in Ballarat music for over 30 years now so I know the lay of the landscape,” Mr Trembath said.
“The workshop is aimed at primarily young musicians, people who are coming into the industry but also anybody who wants to make that transition from being a private musician to learn how to play in front of the public and facilitate that.”
On the bill are topics like securing an agent, navigating the scene post-COVD, advocating for yourself and networking, tips on how to give emerging artists some confidence as they enter the industry.
Hopefully coming out the other side of a pandemic, Mr Trembath said it’s essential that the music industry goes through a little bit of reinvention, and emerging artists can be the leaders of this change.
“After last year and the almost 12-month gap in music, what it’s done is opened a huge amount of opportunities for musicians and especially musicians getting into the game,” he said.
“I believe that diversity is strength, diverse voices, stories and music makes the industry stronger.
“I’d like to say to people, it’s possible to reinvent, it’s possible to start up your own gigs and think outside of traditional venues, it’s possible to find new ways of doing this.”
