AN inaugural chief executive officer has been appointed to lead Ballarat and Grampians Community Legal Service.

New CEO Narelle Laing has a leadership background in community logistics, conservation, and education, for both businesses and non-profits, and said her values align with the aim and services of the legal organisation.

“BGCLS has a long-standing tradition of enabling the Ballarat and regional communities to better access justice,” she said.

“I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to work closely with the board and the committed team at BGCLS.

“As the organisation evolves, I am driven to ensure we continue to provide vital services to those most in need.”

Ms Laing’s former roles include director of human resources at St Patrick’s College, the executive manager of people and culture at Conservation Volunteers Australia and New Zealand, EdConnect Australia general manager for Victoria and New South Wales, and general manager and acting CEO of Australian Community Logistics.

A statement from Ballarat and Grampians Community Legal Service’s board said Ms Laing’s local connections and ability to build grassroots relationships are expected to progress the not-for-profit.

“In her previous roles, Narelle has demonstrated a remarkable ability to secure government funding and manage funding agreements, as well as to garner philanthropic donations,” the statement said.

“Her vision and execution of organisational development have consistently led to success, an asset that BGCLS values highly.

“Furthermore, her extensive network in Ballarat will bolster the organisation’s community outreach.

“The BGCLS board is confident that Narelle’s leadership will foster a collaborative approach to addressing the ongoing, changing needs of the community.”
