Find treasure at town-wide sale
BECAUSE of the town’s distance to larger regional centres, individual garage sales in Linton don’t typically draw a big crowd.
But Jen Stuart said if you run several within a few blocks on the same day, they’ll create an “exciting atmosphere” which attracts visitors from everywhere.
As a result she’s coordinating the Linton-Wide Garage Sale which is returning later in the month on Sunday, 27 March.
The day will see homes across the town set up stalls of their second-hand goods, from furniture and old treasures, to plants and car parts.
“People pick and choose where they want to go, drive from garage sale to garage sale, head down to the Men’s Shed barbecue on Sussex Street to get a sausage, and the town buzzes,” Ms Stuart said.
“The sales attract hundreds of people, some who only briefly stay if they’re looking for something in particular, and others who stay for a chat.
“Garage sale day is actually a nice catch-up time for neighbours who might not see each other often. It’s always a vibrant day, and the coffee shops do really well out of it too.”
Ms Stuart will write up a list, and create a map, of all the garage sales and what they have on offer, which can be picked up at the Linton Takeaway from 8am onwards.
Residents who’d like to host a garage sale at their own home, team up with a neighbour, or set up a stall beside the Men’s Shed barbecue can contact her on 0427 447 416 to register.
