Listen up, dog whisperer has something to say
WORLD renowned dog listener Tony Knight is coming to Ballarat this September to help owners transform their pets into well behaved animals.
The course will be held at the Waggery in Delacombe on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 September and Sunday 1 October and will cost $199.
Since 1999, Mr Knight has been working globally to solve problem dog behaviour without force, pain, domination, drugs or gadgets.
His love for working with dogs began with his mother.
“About 25 years ago my mother stated working with her own dogs to get a better relationship with them,” said Mr Knight.
“It wasn’t until she met Monty Roberts, who’s known as the horse whisperer in the UK, that she suddenly realised what she’d been missing all this time was she’d forgotten that dogs are dogs.
“This was the lightbulb moment for mum.”
From there his mother’s business quickly took off and Mr Knight offered to help her with clients.
“She basically became the dog that all other dogs could trust,” he said.
“People started asking her questions and she got on the radio and then national newspaper and then it went crazy.
“She started to panic and said ‘I can’t see all these people,’ and I said ‘train me up’.”
Mr Knight has since gone on to share his skills on television in several countries and is a regular on global radio stations.
When not travelling the globe, he lives in Beaufort and appears monthly on Ballarat radio.
The key to Mr Knight’s method is trust, and this will be the focus of the three-day course.
“I have no problem with people do traditional obedience training but it’s icing on the cake,” he said.
“You need the cake to support everything and that’s if your dog trusts you.”
Along with this session, Mr Knight’s will be in Ballarat on Sunday 22 October performing his comedy show about dog training, called Mad Dogs and an Englishman.
