CHAIR of Ballarat Business Women Margi Cousins has been appointed employment facilitator for the region’s Local Jobs Program.

Training providers, and jobseekers – especially young and First Nations people – will be able to work with Ms Cousins to locate nearby Ballarat employers and businesses who have appropriate job opportunities on offer.

She said paving more “pathways into the region’s growth industries such as manufacturing, health care and social assistance, construction, retail trade, and education and training” will be a particular focus throughout the Program which is funded by the Federal Government.

Senator for Victoria Sarah Henderson said the initiative will be particularly beneficial during a time when industries continue to recover from pandemic disruptions.

“It’s essential we create opportunities for businesses to connect with the skilled workers they need, and jobseekers can once again gain meaningful employment,” she said.

“Opportunities for job seekers and employers alike will present in industries ranging from manufacturing, construction, education and hospitality as our tourism sector bounces back.”

Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business Stuart Robert said the program is a targeted solution which addresses challenges facing the workforce throughout the country, and encourages positive networking.

“Employment Facilitators across the nation will be an integral part of the Australian Government’s skills-led economic recovery,” he said.

“The Australian Government is committed to helping local communities come up with local solutions, bringing together businesses, trainers and educators to develop projects that deliver real-world opportunities.”

More than $276 million has been injected into the Local Jobs Program across 51 national regions, and it is expected to run until mid-2025.
