THE State Government has announced a new bus service to connect the Lucas community to Ballarat and surrounds.

One hundred and eighty weekly services are planned and routes will run between Ballarat and Wendouree train stations.

Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams said the Route 10 service will be more direct and include Lucas Estate from Sunday 23 February,

“We’re giving Victorians parents and students what they need with better public transport in expanding areas like Lucas where demand is growing,” said Ms Williams.

“Through Victoria’s Bus Plan we’re providing more frequent and reliable public transport that better connects people to schools, jobs and other key destinations over more days of the week and more hours of the day.”

Current loops via Alfredton and Ballarat city centre will be removed to speed up travel and avoid service duplication.

Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said people in her growing electorate have been calling for a Lucas bus.

“It has been a pleasure working alongside them to get this done,” she said.

“Finally now Lucas will be connected to the heart of Ballarat, and residents will be able to access their workplaces, medical appointments, shops, and train services more easily.”

Town centre passengers can transfer to an appropriate service at Ballarat Station, and travellers on their way to Alfredton can swap to Route 26 at Cuthberts Road.
