A BALLARAT couple reached a remarkable milestone recently as Joy and Bert Buckley celebrated their seventy second wedding anniversary last week.

The pair, married on 28 February 1951, now live in adjacent rooms at Nazareth House.

Their daughter Rachel Buckley said that their love is strong all these years later.

Mr Buckley was a governor of Pentridge Prison as well as the Bendigo and Ararat gaols before the pair retired to first Beaufort and later Alfredton.

Ms Buckley said her mother, a huge fan of the royal family, was proud to have received letters from the queen for their 50th and 60th anniversaries.

The duo love the Ballarat Art Gallery and the library and both are avid readers.

“It is wonderful that they can be together and be comfortable as they get older,” Ms Rachel Buckley said.

“Their five children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren wish them a very happy 72nd anniversary.”
