Meredith’s history alive with funding assistance
MEREDITH History Interest Group has received a Shire Community Strengthening Grant from the program’s creative category.
With $2662.50, MHIG president, Marg Cooper said funds will boost their Bringing History Alive initiative in “interesting and entertaining ways.”
“The main aims of the project are to research and print a book about the history of the local hotels that have operated in Meredith since 1842,” she said.
“We will create both permanent and temporary displays. This will include eight transportable display boards representing the hotels of Meredith, which will be professionally produced, that can be used at other venues as a static display, or as part of a presentation.
“There will also be permanent display boards at the MHIG building, to showcase events that occurred in Meredith’s history to members and visitors.”
The group hopes to commission a custom fabricated display box, with a presentation of people who lived in the town.
“People can open the doors and come face to face with someone from Meredith’s history; a photo with captions as to their role in Meredith,” Mrs Cooper said.
“We look forward to showcasing our Bringing History Alive project to Meredith and wider communities in upcoming months.”
MHIG is grateful to the Shire for continuously supporting the group’s goals, and especially, this latest project.
“Our mission is to preserve local history through the development and preservation of a collection of historical documents, artefacts, manuscripts, and memorabilia, and to expand individual and collective knowledge about our unique local heritage, resulting in a greater sense of community and civic pride,” Mrs Cooper said.
