Multi-purpose facility opens in Alfredton
THE Alfredton community gathered on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the new kindergarten and community hub on Donegal Drive.
The facility can accommodate up to 100 kindergarteners and contains flexible spaces for community use.
The official name of the building is yet to be finalised.
State minister for children Lizzie Blandthorn was in attendance to mark the occasion along with Member for Wendouree, Juliana Addison, and City of Ballarat mayor Cr Des Hudson.
Ms Addison said it is important to have this facility in Ballarat’s growing west.
“We know that the Alfredton community is growing, there’s lot of young families, many of them building their first house,” she said.
“That’s why we are so proud to have this new kinder that’s going to have 100 places for our littlest learners.
“This is a great place to raise your children and be a kid.”
Places at the facility are filling fast and families who wish to enrol their children are urged to do so quickly.
The project was funded with $2.25 million from the State Government and $9.9 million from the City of Ballarat.
Cr Hudson said the multi-functional spaces will be great for the wider community.
“Gone are the days where we are building single use facilities, we must be smarter,” he said.
“The community spaces having multiple programmable meeting rooms that are affordable for community groups.
“There will be some common interests where people will come and use these spaces.”
