BALLARAT Miners youth head co-coach Ryan McKew is painting his nails, initiating important conversations and raising funds through the Polished Man campaign.

Taking on the challenge, he hopes to support trauma prevention and recovery programs for children who are at risk of or who have suffered violence.

McKew said he was passionate about supporting the program and wanted to create awareness of the initiative through fundraising and painting a nail.

“I have worked with a number of at risk youth and have sadly been involved with many youth that have experienced violence as a child,” he said.

“One billion children have experienced violence in the last year alone, that’s half the world’s children.

“I believe that no child should have to miss out on their childhood due to violence.”

The nature of the challenge is to paint one nail with the aim of sparking conversations with those around you to inspire learning and donations.

McKew said these donations will hopefully allow for trauma recovery and trauma prevention for children around the world.

“I’m very fortunate to do what I do and have the chance to impact young lives,” he said.

“By joining Polished Man I’m hopefully getting the young people I work with to see that they can impact the world and every little effort counts.

“I’ve always believed my role as a coach is bigger than winning games, it impacts lives in a positive manner.”
