THE Rokewood Corindhap Hoppers have donated one hundred and eleven netball dresses to sports teams in South Africa during the country’s hosting of the recent Netball World Cup.

The dresses were handed over last week by Glenda Jones, the chair of the Central Highlands Netball League, and have been given to the Western Cape Education Department.

Schools most in need in the area will receive the dresses in hopes it will encourage children to take up netball.

Anne Smith, the secretary of the Rokewood Corindhap Football Netball Club organised the donation and said she hopes it will encourage more children to take up the sport.

“Hopefully because netball is starting to take off in South Africa it will give some children who are not in that position the opportunity to be able to learn and play netball,” she said.

“We were very proud as a club and very grateful that we were able to do this.”

Ms Smith included photos of each Hoppers team and a letter about the club and its history which was handed over with the dresses.

“I decided to add that because it would give the people who received the dresses a piece of who we are and where we come from in Australia,” she said.

“Also, it may give the school a chance to write to us and we can become like a sister club.”
