TWELVE outdoor dining pods are being installed throughout Ballarat’s central business district with the aim of providing a shelter for people to eat and catch up.

Set to be located in the city’s garden spaces, City of Ballarat mayor Cr Daniel Moloney said the fixtures will make the locations more accessible.

“These pods will create a comfortable spot to enjoy your lunch from a great local hospitality business,” he said.

“Being able to enjoy the gardens whilst catching up with friends over a casual meal will be enhanced by having these great dining pods.”

Funded from the State Government’s COVID Safe Outdoor Activation Fund 2021, each pod can seat eight people with extended table and overhang space for wheelchair and pram usage.

The locations of the pods have been chosen based on things like nearby workplaces and businesses, with the aim of increasing the use of the area.

Paths and gardens are to be installed alongside the pods, each of which are movable and can change location.

Ten of the pods are on Sturt Street with two near the multi-story car park on Doveton Street.
