New role for mayor
BALLARAT’s very own mayor Cr Daniel Moloney has been elected the chair of Regional Capitals Australia.
The group is an alliance of representatives from all 51 of Australia’s regional capital cities and was established in 2012 to represent them and their needs to the Federal Government.
Cr Moloney said he was honoured by the appointment and would use it to speak for regional Australian residents.
“It is an important time for our association as we head into a federal election, we will be stepping up our advocacy on behalf of the one in three people who rely on our member cities for their everyday needs,” he said.
“The board and I will be working to ensure our members have access to much needed funding to invest in roads, rail, airports as well as digital technology, arts, culture and high-quality education options.”
Cr Moloney replaced Albury City councillor Kevin Mack in the top job and said he looked forward to continuing the work of his predecessor.
“Cr Mack led many delegations with senior government leaders and demonstrated the need for greater infrastructure and policy support to match the strong population growth across regional Australia,” Cr Moloney said.
