Nominate a young First Nations leader

ANYONE can nominate a local young First Nations leader for a Ricci Marks Award.

The award recognises the outstanding achievements of Victorian First Nations young people in areas such as training, education, arts, sports, culture and community leadership.

Two young people will receive a $5000 bursary, and one person will receive a $1500 rising star award.

“I am proud to once again support the Ricci Marks Awards and celebrate the significant achievements and aspirations of young First Nations people across Victoria,” said Minister for Treaty and First Peoples Natalie Hutchins.

“The Ricci Marks Awards highlight the inspiring work First Nations youth do for their communities and the leadership they provide now and in the future, building stronger, empowered First Nations communities.”

Last year, Yemurraki Egan and Jayde Couzens received a Ricci Marks Award to recognise their work inspiring young people to progress their education.

Yemurraki is a Yorta Yorta, Wemba Wemba and Gunditjmara man increasing opportunities for First Nations people to work in the building industry.

Jayde is a Gunditjmara–Noongar woman who is pursuing her dream to becoming a nurse, harnessing her background to connect with her patients and create culturally safe spaces.

The awards we formerly known as the Aboriginal Young Achievers Award and renamed in 2004 in honour of Wotjobaluk man and previous award winner Ricci Marks.
