CITY of Ballarat residents are invited to nominate an inspirational older person for this year’s Ballarat seniors awards.

The awards aim to acknowledge residents aged 60 years and older who dedicate their time and effort to the community.

For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents, the awards are open to anyone aged 50 and older.

There are five award categories as well as the senior of the year award, including the community service award, equity, diversity and inclusion award, healthy and active living award, community teamwork award, and lifetime achievement award.

“Every year we see such wonderful examples of people who do some incredible things in Ballarat,” said City of Ballarat mayor Cr Des Hudson.

“I encourage everybody to have a think about somebody in their life who deserves recognition.

“Whether it is a friend, a relative, a colleague or anybody you might come across, I’m sure everybody knows somebody who is doing something special.”

The 2021 census indicated there was almost 35,000 Ballarat residents aged over 55 and that figure is expected to reach 42,000 by 2036.

The awards will be presented on Friday 1 November at Mercure Ballarat Hotel and Convention Centre.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the City of Ballarat website or hard copies are available at the City of Ballarat Customer Service Centre or at Ballarat Libraries at central, Wendouree and Sebastopol.
