Nothing could be finer than the sound of singing

MORE than one-hundred and fifty voices from four choirs came together to warm their spirits and exercise their voices in what the organisers hope will be the first of many such joyous occasions.

The brainchild of choir conductors Stella Savy and Andrew Price, three choirs from Ballarat and district and one choir from Woodend met at Daylesford’s Town Hall to learn new songs, share their musical knowledge, and importantly to have fun.

Stella Savy is the conductor of Ballarat’s Sweet Monas, the Thursday Night Choir and the Creswick Chorus, with Andrew Price the conductor of the Woodend Warblers.

The two conductors were keen to bring like-minded singers together who share the same passion, to understand different styles and approaches to singing and experience group singing.

“There were so many happy faces we decided there and then we just had to do this again. It was truly joyful” Savy said.

In under three hours the choirs learnt four new songs, in four-part harmony.

Afterwards friends and guests were welcomed to hear the new songs followed by each choir’s short repertoire.

To join the Sweet Monas there is an audition, but the Thursday Night, the Creswick Chorus, and the Woodend Warblers Square choirs welcome all commers.
