OUR Lady Help of Christians Wendouree will mark thirty years of providing Christmas lunch to Ballarat community members on Saturday, 25 December.

Co-coordinator Sandra Dillon said any individuals, couples or families who may not be able to afford a good Christmas meal at home, or are not able to link up with other family and friends on the day, are invited to order a meal.

To ensure COVID-safety, OLHC’s team of 20 volunteers are only offering food to take away, rather than their traditional sit-down meal, so bookings need to be made by Thursday, 23 December via 0419 975 914.

“It is essential people book in so we can have meals ready for them, and we’ll contact them with a specific pick-up time afterwards,” Ms Dillon said.

“We’re preparing the same meal we would prepare for a sit-down lunch; a simple Christmas meal, but one people seem to enjoy; roast meats and vegetables, plum pudding and fruit salad.

“Christmas Day gives rise to high expectations, but our lunch has always had a high energy feel about it. It’s the spirit of the day that makes a difference.”

Christmas lunches can be picked up from the OLHC church hall at 480A Gillies Street, and volunteers will be in the school’s off-street carpark to assist people.
