Open day celebrates park’s official launch
ROTARY Centennial Park, an initiative of Alfredton Rotary Club at Winter Swamp and Mullawallah Wetands, will officially open on Sunday, 2 August at 11am.
Opposite Coltman Plaza at the apex of Ring Road, the green space will be launched during an open day by a Rotary District Governor and a City of Ballarat representative.
Alfredton Rotary Club president, David Sanders said the crown land has been adapted for recreation. It will be a “Group 8 project,” in the next decade, with all Rotary Clubs of the Ballarat area collaborating with residents.
“We will be installing some bird boxes and more trees. We plan to have a barbecue…to encourage the locals to get involved,” he said.
“We are hoping that individuals or families could purchase and plant a tree. What a great chance to leave a lasting legacy…helping the environment in which we live, and future generations will benefit.
“This is a lovely resource for the Alfredton community. We have cleared, cleaned up and planted some 300 trees to date, and an information sign has been erected on the site identifying the wildlife and the benefits that wetlands bring to our environment.”
Name plaques will recognise sponsored trees. Money raised will be put back into the park’s upkeep.
