THE provision of in-home palliative care in the Ballarat region has received a boost.
Ballarat Hospice Care last Friday 15 August 15 welcomed a visit from the International Leader of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, Lieutenant Grand Master Malta, H.E. Bailiff Paul Borg.
Alongside Ballarat Commander Chevalier Peter Morey KJSJ, Mr Borg presented a $2000 donation on behalf of the Ballarat Commandery to Ballarat Hospice Care.
Hospice CEO Andrew Howard said the donation will help provide vital services for patients and families experiencing in-home end-of-life care.
“We are grateful for the continued support of the Ballarat Order of St John of Jerusalem,” Mr Howard said.
“This contribution will assist us in delivering compassionate, in-home care and support at no cost to our patients and their loved ones.”
The Order of St John of Jerusalem is an ecumenical Christian Order of Chivalry, descended from the Knights Hospitaller who founded a hospice in Jerusalem in the 11th century, and remains dedicated to charitable works worldwide.
The Ballarat Order has been a long-standing supporter of Ballarat Hospice Care, contributing to local health and community initiatives through donations and partnerships.
The Ballarat Order contributes some proceeds from BLOC Music Theatre productions, including this year’s Wizard of Oz, in which Order member Tim Gay performed as the Wizard.
The Order also supports Ballarat Berry Street, Macauley House, S&D Foundation, Uniting Care, The SoupBus, shower bus, Timor Leste TB program, Blaze Aid, Nepal’s sanitation program, and the new sleep bus program.
Mr Borg’s local visit was part of a wider tour taking in four Australian states and also featuring investitures for new members, including three in Ballarat.
