Outstanding Performance by the Tudor Choristers
THE Tudor Choristers, one of Melbourne’s best loved and best-known choral groups, recently gave a delightful Christmas performance at the Anglican Cathedral in Ballarat.
The music was a mixture of traditional, contemporary and medieval carols for a 40-voice choir and a recorder consort of five, with Elizabeth Buttery accompanying on the organ.
The musical director Dr Kathleen McGuire said that the Tudor Choristers were pleased to be able to partner with the Anglican Cathedral and the Cathedral Music Foundation to share its Sing Nowell Concert for 2019 with the Ballarat community.
“Many of the Tudor Choristers have connections with Ballarat through family, friends and even former residency,” McGuire said.
“It was our pleasure to bring our music to Ballarat and we look forward to doing so again next year, so please mark Sunday, 13 December 2020 in your diaries.”
McGuire said she was particularly impressed at the audience’s singing when they joined the choir for some well-known carols.
The Tudor Choristers’ Sing Nowell! concert was part of the Cathedral’s Music Foundation program, the aims of which are to support young people to gain a broader understanding of choral and organ music.
Ross Fairhurst, choir member and vice-president of the Tudor Choristers commended the Cathedral, and the Dean the Very Reverend Chris Chataway’s initiative, to open up the Cathedral to a broader community engagement that will encourage greater participation in a whole range of aspects of life.
Both Fairhurst and McGuire thanked the Dean for his cooperation and encouragement and both wished him well for his move to Perth.
