ARTIST Letitia Yates is inviting the community to paint a donut to help finish a piece of artwork.

The creation is a collaboration with artist collective Femxle Experience Art Rebellion, or FEAR, which aims to close the gap between artist-run spaces and local people.

Based in the Bridge Mall, FEAR’s studio also aims to be a safe space for women and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Yates is known as the ‘donut therapist’ for her artworks inspired by the sweat treat.

“It’s kind of a funny story, me and Toni, one of the co-founders of FEAR, had a talk one day saying how donut therapy should exist because eating donuts makes people happy,” she said.

“The idea of me doing donut paintings came from there.”

Yates said she hopes the day can be a way for people to escape the busyness of everyday life.

“The painting I’m doing is a collaboration with the general public so people can join in and paint a few donuts,” she said.

“I thought it was a cool idea to try out.

“I hope people find it something relaxing to do where they do a couple of paintings and get their mind off things.”

She has been working with FEAR throughout her career and said she is thankful for their support.

“I’ve known FEAR for a long time now and I’ve always loved and supported them, and they’ve supported me, and they wanted to support me in trying to complete this painting,” she said.

“They help support emerging artists to showcase their artworks and it’s also a good safe space for many people.”

The painting day will be held Saturday, 13 May from 12pm until 4pm at FEAR in the Bridge Mall.
