Parking permits easier than ever
FROM 22 March, the Golden Plains Shire are set to transition to the Victorian Government’s new Accessible Parking Permit Scheme to provide the community with an easier application process.
The Accessible Parking Permit Scheme includes various improvements to the process including introducing six, 12 and 24 month temporary permits, increasing permit lengths from three to five years and removing the need for permit holders with permanent medical conditions to undergo assessments to renew their permit.
“Moving to the… Scheme later this month will simplify the process for our residents to apply for Double Time and Disability Parking permits,” Golden Plains mayor Cr Helena Kirby said.
“The new system brings benefits including permits that last longer, allow applicants to visit an Occupational Therapist instead of a GP and more affordable, with council removing the $10.20 processing fee from the old system.
“Our customer service team will remain available to assist residents navigate the new system, and I encourage permit-holders with questions to visit or call them if they need assistance.”
To renew or apply a permit, residents will need to begin their application at accessibleparking.vic.gov.au, take the reference number to their GP or OT to complete an online assessment and then they will submit the application.
If the application is successful, the permit will be mailed or can be alternatively organised to be picked up from the Bannockburn or Smythesdale customer service centres.
Residents without access to a mobile phone or the internet can contact the Shire’s customer service team at 5220 7111 for a paper application.
