Parmas for a purpose

TWO Ballarat venues are teaming up and hosting a takeaway parma night in an effort to raise awareness and funds for motor neurone disease research.

As a joint effort between Joe Capuano from the Red Lion Hotel and Jason Yean from the Park Hotel, tonight’s event will see $5 from every parma sold donated to Fight MND.

Important to many, motor neurone disease is an emotional cause for both venues as both Mr Yean and Mr Capuano have a lost friend or family member to the disease.

“Steve Deedman worked at the Red Lion as a duty manager for 15 plus years,” Mr Capuano said.

“We kept Steve at home fighting motor neuron disease as long as we could, making sure he was fed and showered.

“Steve fought for 18 months before it took his life at just 45 years old.”

Since the beginning of COVID-19 shutdowns on restaurants and pubs, both the Park Hotel and the Red Lion have offered takeaway and been overwhelmed with the support from residents.

Both venues see this fundraiser as an opportunity to not only raise much needed money for the Fight MND charity, but also as a way to give back to the Ballarat community.

“The community support has been fantastic, we are so lucky to have such amazing regulars who support us,” Mr Yean said.

Order and pick up an East/West Parma created specifically for the event Wednesday, 2 September from 5pm to 8pm from either the Park Hotel in Sturt Street, or the Red Lion Hotel on Main Road.
