IF you enjoy heading out for a Sunday jog, a challenging fun run for a good cause is taking off this weekend in a scenic location.

PerFit’s Run Raiser 2022 will generate money for the Ballarat Winter Appeal this Sunday, 24 July from 8am, moving around Buninyong and surrounding bushland.

Run director Anthony Ebery said the event will start at PerFit’s training centre at 260A Webbs Hill Road in the village’s south.

“We’re asking people to run a course loop of seven kilometres, and the task is to get that done within an hour, six times. We’ve got a clock that will restart every hour,” he said.

“It will be the equivalent of a marathon for the runners, and the walkers are tasked with completing the three-point-six-kilometre loop every hour on the hour.

“We’ve got about 25 people signed up so far, and we’re hoping to drive those numbers up. We encourage anyone that wants to join us or support us, including local businesses, to come on board.”

PerFit are long-term supporters of the Ballarat Winter Appeal, previously hosting trivia nights, but with inspiration from a member who often runs throughout the Buninyong area, the Run Raiser is a new challenge.

“This is the first year we’ve run the event and ideally we’d like to do this annually,” Mr Ebery said.

“We love supporting the Winter Appeal because it is for Ballarat, and Ballarat people. There are a lot of different fundraisers out there, but this is locals supporting local.

“We’re grateful to have heating and food this winter, but not everyone does, so we are taking the opportunity to give back where we can.” Register at bit.ly/3OelyFo.
