STRUCTURAL works on the new wing of St John of God Hospital are finished.

The hospital’s management committee were joined by design and construction staff for a topping out ceremony recently to mark the completion of the medical services building’s structural frame.

“This is a major milestone in our redevelopment project,” CEO Alex Demidov said. “It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

“We are confident that the new medical services building will help to expand our services for the Ballarat community, to allow us to provide the best possible care to our patients.”

BESIX Watpac staff are part of the construction project, and operations manager Matthew Dalmau, said the workers’ efforts are to be celebrated.

“This project truly embodies the spirit of collaboration, and today provides a wonderful opportunity to express our gratitude for the team’s exceptional expertise in delivering complex hospital infrastructure for the local community,” he said.

The St John of God Hospital redevelopment is budgeted at $80.5 million and includes the construction of a 30-bed in-patient ward, 10-bed intensive and critical care unit, four new operating theatres, a bigger recovery space, and a hybrid catheterisation lab.

The next section of works will include the installation of a contemporary facade and the fit-out.

Mr Demidov said he expects the project will be fully complete by the second quarter of next year.

“The project still remains on schedule and on budget,” he said.
