THE Federal Government has launched an advertising campaign to increase safety around regional railway crossings.

The campaign aims to remind drivers about the risks of railway crossings and the importance of being cautious.

It is part of the Federal Government’s $180 million level crossing safety program which includes $160 million of crossing upgrades.

The program also includes more than $4 million towards research into low cost, innovative level crossing improvements.

“Rail travel is critical for so many of our regional communities, to connect them with their loved ones, jobs and opportunities,” said Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King.

“The Albanese Government is committed to improving rail safety and productivity, which is why we’re investing to upgrade rail infrastructure and launching this campaign to educate locals and visitors around the importance of regional railway crossing safety.”

A statement from the Federal Government said it has a commitment to zero harm at level crossings and the campaign will work in with other initiatives such as a train illumination code of practice and the independent review of national rail safety law.

The campaign will air on television, radio, billboards, podcasts, social media and streaming platforms until Sunday 30 June.
