Public meeting spotlighting safety
RESIDENTS and local leaders are encouraged to attend a public meeting at the Ballarat Welcome Centre next week, focused on community safety.
Hosted by Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council in partnership with Victoria Police and the City of Ballarat, the meeting will be held from 7pm to 8pm on Monday, 31 October.
Dr Sundram Sivamalai said the aim is to bring ideas together to make Ballarat a safer place for every person to live.
“Everyone has a right to feel safe when they are out and about in Ballarat. What can we do to make Ballarat as safe as possible?” he said.
“We are going to welcome Ballarat’s community leaders and residents to come along to the meeting, no longer than 60 minutes, to share how we move forward to make Ballarat a safer place to live.
“Lately there’s been some anxiety within people. We’re not here to be naming and blaming. Let’s share our views and plan a strategy to move forward.
“We want to live in peace and harmony, and to see that each of us can help each other when in need.”
Some community leaders will speak, before the floor is opened up to any organisations’ representatives or residents who have their own strategies to share about public safety.
After the meeting, volunteers are expected to be sought to develop plan of action.
Register your attendance via Shipra Saini at BRMC on 5383 0613, by sending a text quoting ‘ICM RSVP’ and your name to 0455 667 227 or by emailing [email protected].
Doors open at 6.30pm, with tea and coffee served. The Ballarat Welcome Centre is based at 25 Barkly Street in the former Ballarat East Library building.
