WILSONS Fruit and Vegetable’s on Mair Street will undergo a renovation with construction set to begin this weekend.

The popular produce and deli destination will be closed from Sunday, 11 September until Saturday, 1 October to allow for what general manager Peter Wilson said will be an overhaul of their current setup.

“We’re doing a whole refit of the retail space. We’re going to gut it right out and refill it with new fridges, new displays, new register bays, everything,” he said.

“Twenty years is a long time for a store to be running, and it’s time to update it and give it a facelift because after that much time some of the things would be pretty worn out too.

“This will give us the ability to better display our products and make it an easier, better shopping experience for our customers.”

A popup store will operate from the Mair Street warehouse during the renovation and customers can continue shopping with Wilsons via home delivery or at the Lucas location.

The renovation will introduce about six new display fridges and a new deli case, but Mr Wilson said much of the change will be in the store’s presentation.

“It’s not so much about equipment but the look and feel of the place. I guess we’ve tried to tie back to our roots a little bit,” he said.

“There’ll be a strong timber feature to the rebuild, different floor coverings to give it that rustic, sort of old packing shed feel.

“It certainly won’t be modern and in-your-face.”
