A HEALTH Impact Assessment has been received by the City of Ballarat on a planning application for a tailings dam at the Ballarat Gold Mine.

The report seeks to address concerns by members of the Mount Clear community about the proximity of the proposed dam to homes.

As part of the reporting process, a community information session will be held on Monday 19 June from 4.30pm at the Mercure Ballarat on Main Road in Golden Point.

Ballarat Gold Mine offered to run the session to address residents’ concerns despite it not being a legal requirement.

Residents who have previously submitted a response will automatically be notified about the session, however, anyone who registers is welcome to attend.

Attendance needs to be confirmed by close of business on Thursday 15 June by emailing [email protected] or calling 03 5320 5640.

The community is also still able to make submissions via the City of Ballarat e-Services portal.

The Health Impact Assessment can also be viewed at portal under ‘town planning’, then found under ‘advertised applications and registers’, and then in ‘planning applications currently on advertising’.

A final decision will likely be made by council at a future meeting of the delegated planning committee where all relevant parties will be notified.
