AFTER re-opening in June, RACV Goldfields Resort’s ArtHouse initiative is set to debut a workshop for kids over the coming school holidays.

The program will run from Tuesday, 20 September to Monday, 26 September by artist Karima Baadilla, who said the sessions will be influenced by the natural landscape of the surrounding area.

“For the first 10 minutes I’m wanting to take the kids on a walk around the grounds and do an I-Spy with nature,” she said.

“Then we’ll come back and do some collaborative work. One class will do rubbings, another will do drawings so there’ll be some variety.

“There’s the fun and creative side of it but it’s also about having them seeing and appreciate what’s around them because that gives them confidence in putting that awareness into their art.”

The free workshops are open for children from five to 12 and will consist 75-minute sessions each capped at 12 attendees.

All materials will be provided and each student will receive a map of the resort and surrounds created by Baadilla.

RACV’s spokesperson Louise Steinfort said the events are a great use of the ArtHouse initiative which is set to officially launch in October.

“The workshops developed by Karima will develop children’s drawing skills to create works that can be replicated at home using natural materials from their own backyard,” she said.

“This pilot program will develop into a more extensive program of activities for the upcoming summer school holidays.

“Through engaging artists to produce unique experiences we hope to share stories about this region and inspire artists of the future.” To register, visit bit.ly/3CrJFhl.
