IN the art world during the 90s new styles of art began to emerge that created awareness to social issues and critiqued culture in new ways.

REVERB: RETURN TO THE 90s, a retrospective of work from Federation University’s Visual Arts alumni will display art from the graduates of the former Ballarat College, University of Ballarat and Ballarat TAFE across the decade.

“We want to bring together former Ballarat art school’s alumni to showcase what they have been doing and where they are at now,” Shelley Hinton, Post Office Gallery Curator.

“We want to help them celebrate their endeavours. It’s almost like a school re-union.”

The university is keen for past students to exhibit alongside each other and take the opportunity to catch up with their peers.

Ms Hinton said this is the third year in a row that the gallery has hosted an exhibition devoted to a specific decade.

“Some of the artists display work they created back in the 90s while others submit pieces from their more current efforts,” she said. “Thankfully for the gallery, the artists who show their work sometimes donate them to the university’s collection.”

Entry is free to alumni who completed their studies between 1 January 1990 and 31 December 1999.

Sunday, 24 November is the closing date for submissions. For further information and entry form go to federation.edu.au/pogallery.
