ON the eve of the 2021 Rock Ballarat festivities, an automotive award will be presented for the first time in the event’s history.

If festivalgoers or supporters have a classic car or vintage vehicle they’re proud to show off, they’re encouraged to post a photo of it to Instagram with the hashtag, #RockBallarat.

Drawn at random, one participant will win the inaugural Rock Ballarat Garage Hero trophy in celebration of their passion for retro style and engineering.

Some of the cars in the online showcase may also be seen outside the Civic Hall during Rock Ballarat on Friday, 12, Saturday, 13 and Sunday, 14 February.

Festival organiser Stevie Kaze said vehicles will be displayed beside the street party and trade stalls, parked out the front of the Hall, and behind it on the Ballarat Library side.

The street party vicinity between Doveton Street and the Civic Hall will be gated to ensure COVID safety with festival staff tracking attendee numbers and managing contact tracing.

Last year, classic cars lined Armstrong Street where the Rock Ballarat street party was based.
